Our Process is Completely Transparent

With us, what you see is what you get. Our process is completely transparent. There are no hidden extras or surprise bills at the end. At every step, we will check that you are comfortable with how your US tax return or NZ tax return is progressing and seek your approval before proceeding with the work required. 

The time taken to complete your return will depend on both the time of year and the complexity of the work. 

At NZ US Tax Specialists we prepare your US tax return or NZ tax return in a timely and efficient manner, taking your tax compliance needs and obligations into account as well as your preferences as to how you interact with us.

Here’s what you can expect from our NZ / US tax return process:



We start by assessing your tax situation. There are two ways to do this:

  • You can fill out our online questionnaire or we can email it to you. Our client services manager is always available to answer any queries on the phone, by email or instant messenger.
  • Or you can meet with us in person. Many clients prefer to do this as we can address any questions as they come up. If you select this option, you will be advised of the consult price beforehand and will be invoiced for our time following the consultation.

Once we have an overview of the work involved, we will provide an estimate for our services.



If you are comfortable with the estimate, we send you a letter of agreement, together with an invoice for 50% of the estimate. The letter lists the information we require from you and includes a timeline for completion.



Once we receive the signed letter of agreement we will email you details of the portal to which you can upload the documents we require to complete your US tax return or NZ Tax return. If you prefer, you can do this by email.

If we discover anything further is required, we will revert back to you with a request for more information.

At this stage we invite you to advise us of any other parties to include in our communications (other accountants or nominated people).



Once we have received all the information requested, we will prepare your US tax return or NZ tax return and invoice you for the balance of the work.

Your return will be checked by our Managing Director before being presented. We prefer to walk you through your return in person so you are fully aware of what you are filing. If this is not possible we can email it to you for final approval. 



Once approved, we will file your return (we use e-filing where possible).
