GST increases in New Zealand effective 1 October 2010.

This has been heavily publicized by accounting professionals and the Inland Revenue Department in the past month. New Zealand still does not exempt necessary items such as food from GST as does Australia.

Tax cuts were introduced to help alleviate the rise in the cost of living caused by the increase in GST.

This GST increase is the second increase since GST was introduced in 1985 which occurred just after the era of wage and price freezes and carless day.
