Some pointers as regards changes affecting 2010 US tax return filers.
1. The due date – 15 April – has been changed to 18 April due to to the Emancipation Day holiday in DC. This applies nationwide.
2. The standard deduction has increased for some taxpayers (MFJ remains at US$11400).
3. The overall limitation on itemized deductions for taxpayers with AGI exceeding US$166,800 MFJ / US$93,400 single has been removed.
Second tier itemized deductions are still subject to the 2% of AGI limitation.
